Épée fencing explained
Épée is the heaviest weapon and the closest to an actual duel: the entire body, head to toe,
is a valid target, and there's no right-of-way, first to land simply scores.
- Weapon: stiff, heavier (~770g), large bell guard to protect the hand.
- Target: the whole body. No lamé needed, the whole opponent is "on target".
- No priority: whoever hits first scores. If both hit within a fraction of a second, both get a point (a "double").
- Best for: patient, strategic fencers who like a distance-and-timing game, and it's forgiving for beginners since there's no right-of-way to learn.
