Sabre fencing explained
Sabre is the fast, aggressive weapon, you can score with the edge (a cut) as well as the tip.
The target is everything above the waist: torso, arms and head, a nod to its cavalry-sword origins.
- Weapon: light, with a guard that wraps to protect the hand; you slash and thrust.
- Target: above the waist, head, arms and torso, tracked through a lamé jacket and mask.
- Right-of-way: yes, like foil, priority decides who scores when both hit.
- Best for: explosive, aggressive fencers. Bouts are the quickest of the three weapons.
Compare it with foil and épée, then find a club.
