People switch clubs constantly, for commute, cost, coaching style, training partners, or just fit, and the fencing world is small enough that HOW you leave follows you around. The good news: a clean switch is simple.

The playbook: tell your current coach directly, before they hear it elsewhere, in person or a straightforward message: 'We've decided to move to X for [shorter drive / more practice partners at her level / schedule]. Thank you for everything you've built in her.' Pay out anything you owe, return borrowed gear, and let your fencer say goodbye to training partners. That's the whole thing. You don't owe a negotiation, a defense of the decision, or a months-long transition.

What to expect: most coaches are professional about it; a few take it personally, and that awkwardness fades within a season. At local tournaments you'll see the old club constantly, a friendly greeting from the parent side goes a long way, and kids sort it out faster than adults do.

Two cautions from hard experience: don't trash the old club to the new one (it reads badly and gets repeated), and if your fencer is competitive, check whether any club-affiliation paperwork (USA Fencing club representation) needs updating before the next event so their results credit the right club.
