Foil, épée or sabre, which should we pick?
Whichever your local club teaches best, that's a real answer, not a dodge. A great sabre coach beats a mediocre foil program every time, and kids switch weapons early on with no penalty.
The quick personality guide: foil is the classic teaching weapon, precise, tactical, with right-of-way rules that build discipline. Épée is the simplest to understand (whole body is target, no right-of-way) and rewards patience, it's also the friendliest for adult beginners. Sabre is the fastest and loudest, slashing hits, explosive attacks, big personalities.
Most US clubs start beginners on foil or épée. Take the quiz, then let the club's strength decide.
