What age can kids start fencing?
Most clubs start kids around 7 or 8, old enough to follow multi-step instructions and hold a light weapon safely. Some run 'little musketeer' intro programs from 5 or 6 with foam or plastic equipment, and those are fine too; they're teaching footwork and fun, not fencing technique.
There's no upper limit in the other direction. Teens starting 'late' catch up fast, and adults start in their 30s, 40s and well beyond, fencing rewards focus, patience and problem-solving over size or strength, which is exactly why it suits such a wide age range.
If your kid is younger than the club's cutoff, ask about summer camps, they're the traditional first taste, all gear provided.
