Fencing blade size finder
Blades come in numbered sizes, and the right one is mostly about age. Enter the fencer's age below for the standard size, then confirm with your coach or club, who can match it to the fencer's height and reach.

Grip: French vs pistol. Separate from blade size, foil and epee come with two grip styles. Most beginners and kids start on a pistol (orthopedic) grip, which is molded and easy to hold securely. A French grip is a longer straight handle that trades some control for reach and point manipulation, and is popular in epee and with more advanced fencers. Sabre uses its own single grip. Start with pistol unless your coach suggests otherwise.
This is a starting point, not a fitting. Blades are consumable safety gear, so buy from a reputable supplier and let your coach confirm the size. See the weapon buying guide, the gear sizing guide, and the mask size finder.
